Keeping things organized with young kids.

Organizing a home is one thing, but being able to maintain it and clean it up quickly when you have little ones is another.

The key is to not overthink the process. It needs to be easy for you, and especially them. Over labeling and categorizing things looks lovely in photos, but just isn’t realistic when you’re living in a space. For example, monster trucks and trucks are the same thing.

Here are a few easy tips to get toys off the floor and out of site when you want to reclaim your home for yourself after bedtime! :)

STEP ONE: EDIT

You most likely have too many toys. Kids are overstimulated, just like you, when there are too many options. Edit what you have available, and if you have the space in your home, create a bin for things that you can rotate in and out when it appears they are ready for something new.

STEP TWO: INVEST IN GOOD BASKETS

Invest in baskets that go with the overall aesthetic of your home. Measure under furniture for hidden spots to tuck them into so they are out of sight when you want them to be. Storage coffee tables and other furniture such as benches and ottomans are also great investments.

STEP THREE: KEEP THE CATEGORIES BROAD

Legos with legos, vehicles with vehicles, block with blocks, etc. It doesn’t need to be broken down anymore specific than that. Your kids will easily be able to toss everything when the time comes to clean up

STEP FOUR: EMBRACE THIS PHASE OF LIFE

I will admit, I like things put away. This phase of life with young kids is short, so the peace of mind knowing things have a place that will allow you to enjoy your home in between the messes is really nice, and will keep you from feeling overwhelmed when it seems the house has exploded!
